am i being cheap because i want to do my own wedding invitation cards?
September 29, 2009
designing, printing on my own printer,
some people thinks i’m being cheap to do everything on my own!
The answer is No you are nto being cheap! The economy is in the crapper and everyone and I mean everyone is trying to save money.
You can do great invitations on your own and they will look good, you just need to have patience and time to do them so that they turn out professional.
Also , if you have never done this before, make sure you give yourself time to work out any kinks, because you dont want to be printing and figuring out things at the 11th hour. Make a test run way ahead of time making sure your printer can handle the paper and amount of printing that you will be doing. Also you have to adjust for color and etc.
Just sit down for a minute and plan out what you want.
Or go to some sites to get inspiration, like:

Only if you use crayons and construction paper. I think that it sounds very nice. I wouldn’t tell anyone to begin with. Tell them to kiss your cheap a**.

No, you are not being cheap. You are being creative. You should create your wedding invitations they way you want. Remember, it is your wedding not theirs…so, have fun with it.

No, you’re being practical. The truth is that if you have the time and inclination to do them then go ahead. You’d be amazed at what’s available now for those who want to do it themselves.
The truth is that I have been invited to many weddings and no matter what the price of the wedding invitation unless it’s a wedding to one of my close relatives those invitations end up in the trash as soon as the event is over.
I keep the invitation long enough to remind me about the nuptials but once that day passes …in the bin it goes.

No way, I did my own, yes I was trying to save some money to use somewhere else, but I actually enjoyed doing it. You can be really creative and get what you really want. People were actually surprised when I said I designed them myself.

I made my own wedding invitations and my own wedding favors. I did all kinds of things that are not entirely typical, such as, I wore a green dress and I mingled with my guests before the wedding instead of hiding out in the brides room.
My point? It’s YOUR wedding, not "some people’s" wedding. Do whatever makes you happy and fits into your budget.

Actually, you’re being extremely practical!
It makes a lot of sense to make your own wedding invitations. For my sister’s wedding, I designed the invitations myself (I have some graphic design experience) and then I printed them on invitation paper that I got online.
Now, not everyone has a semi-proficient graphic designer in their family, but I highly recommend the DIY kits that are sold at several online retailers and in office supplies stores. You have a lot of flexibility with these kits, and it makes a lot of sense to do them yourself. That way, you know that you’re getting exactly what you want, without having to pay for corrections or inadequate invitations.
It’s your wedding, so don’t worry about what anyone else says! Things are going to be great even with home made invitations! Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s a much smarter choice.
