How can I find someone to do calligraphy for my wedding invitations in the Northwest Chicago suburbs?
November 27, 2009
I need someone to address my wedding invitations in calligraphy in the northwest suburbs area of Chicago. I would prefer to use someone locally so I can pick up and drop off. Any suggestions? How do I search out such a person?

word of mouth is better than someone you have never heard of. Most wedding companies network and would not recommend someone if their work was not good.

Check with the people who printed your invitations and see if they can put you in touch with someone. Or call a wedding planner and see if they have a line on a calligrapher.

Go to a store in Chicago that specialzies in Wedding Invitations and ask if they can refer you to someon. It’s always best to use a friend, or, someone that knows the Calligrapher, to make you get the results you want.

Although I’m not located in the Chicago area, I do many jobs from a long distance. UPS shipping works out great. I’ve been a professional calligrapher for about 20 years, I teach through the North Bennet Street School in Boston and have published a book, which I use as a textbook for the classes I teach. It’s called “Calligraphy: A Course in Hand Lettering” published by Watson Guptill in NYC. Please contact me if you are interested and we can discuss price, lettering style, color, timing, etc. I also make hand-made wedding books – not photo albums, but books of text that contain your entire wedding ceremony – scripture, charge to couple, vows, etc. It’s all on the website. Thanks.
